Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact. LINE- linear marks made with pen or brush or edge created when two                                                                                               shapes meet.

                              SHAPE- Defined area of geometric or organic form.

                                DIRECTION- Horizontal, vertical, or oblique.

                                  SIZE- Relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that of the other.

                                   TEXTURE- Surface quality of a shape- rough, smooth, soft, hard, glossy, etc.

                                    COLOR- Hue.

                                   VALUE- Lightness or darkness of a color.

                                  BALANCE- Similar to balance in physics.

                                  GRADATION- Size and direction produce linear perspective.

                                 REPETITION- With variation is interesting, without it can be monotonous.

                              CONTRAST- To compare to show differences.

                               HARMONY- Visually satisfying effect of combined colors.

                            DOMINANCE- Gives a painting interest.

                            UNITY- Ideas being expressed in paintings.
