Thought Through The Eye


Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact. Roberto Matta  shows good surrealism in his artwork.

LINE- linear marks made with pen or brush or edge created when two                                                                                               shapes meet.
                              SHAPE- Defined area of geometric or organic form.
                                DIRECTION- Horizontal, vertical, or oblique.
                                  SIZE- Relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that of the other.
                                   TEXTURE- Surface quality of a shape- rough, smooth, soft, hard, glossy, etc.
                                    COLOR- Hue.
                                   VALUE- Lightness or darkness of a color.
                                  BALANCE- Similar to balance in physics.
                                  GRADATION- Size and direction produce linear perspective.
                                 REPETITION- With variation is interesting, without it can be monotonous.
                              CONTRAST- To compare to show differences.
                               HARMONY- Visually satisfying effect of combined colors.

                            DOMINANCE- Gives a painting interest.
                            UNITY- Ideas being expressed in paintings.
